Shubman Gill is a young Indian cricketer who was born on September 8, 1999, in Fazilka, Punjab. He started playing cricket at a very young age and his talent was recognized by Punjab cricket team selectors, who gave him a chance to play in various age-group tournaments.
In 2017, Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten double century in an Under-19 match between Punjab and Tamil Nadu. This performance caught the attention of the national selectors, who picked him for the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand in 2018. Shubman Gill emerged as the leading run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 372 runs in six matches at an average of 124.00.
In January 2019, Shubman Gill was included in the Indian team for the ODI series in New Zealand. He made his debut in the final match of the series and scored an impressive 9 runs off 21 balls. He also made his T20 international debut in February 2019 against New Zealand.
After his impressive performances in domestic cricket and the Under-19 World Cup, Shubman Gill was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in 2018 for a whopping INR 1.8 crore. He made his IPL debut in 2018 and emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the league.
In December 2020, Shubman Gill made his Test debut for India against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He made an instant impact, scoring 45 and 35* in the match. He became a regular member of the Indian Test team and played a crucial role in India's historic series win against Australia in January 2021 and England in February-March 2021.
